Deconstruction of a media text

Group members:

Dan Troupe - director
Andy Goodhand - Editor
Matthew Nolan - Camera
Bethany Hirons - Producer

As a group task, the media text that will be deconstructed and reconstructed will be Paranormal Activity 2. The film was directed by Tod Williams. The release date of the film was October 22 2010.

Production plan

Wednesday 3rd October:
Began to sort out ideas for shots.
No props needed.
All group members needed.

Thursday 4th October
Begin filming, all cast needed. We decided to film outside for the shot where the male gets thrown back and obtain the establishing shot of the trees. Took many takes of the male being thrown into the camera. And other various shots which created the presence of paranormal activity such as the chair moving by itself and the warning sign rattling.

Friday 5th October
We decided to re-shoot the man being thrown and have it done inside as it broke the continuity. We filmed the audience in the cinema scene as well.

Tuesday 9th October
Begin editing and putting all of the clips into order.

Wednesday 10th October
Add the static effect and also the sounds.

Below is the finished reconstruction.

This embedded video contains the out takes to show the process.

The roof of the college was chosen to match the outside shots of the garden in the trailer.

We choose this shot of a corridor because when filming various locations, there was too many photographs of student work and displays. It wouldn't have had that much realism. In addition, this corridor looked quite abandoned so it was fitting.

In this scene, we tried to re-create the spooky effects such as furniture rattling. We figured this was the best we would get. I was on the left hand side rattling the chain out of shot.

In this shot, we had the camera at a high angle to create the surveillance camera effect and to create the chair rolling forward by itself: I laid on the floor flat and pushed the chair.
